About

Hello, my given name is Roderick Alan Linden Phillips, but most people call me Rod – I’m the one on the left!

I am married to a wonderful and beautiful woman of God, Elia and we are anticipating our 21st Anniversary in July of 2010 – How time flies! I have four children between the ages of 10 and 18.

I live in Hayward, California and previously served as Senior Pastor at Castro Valley First Baptist Church.  In February of 2010 I resigned that post and am presently praying and considering where God would have me serve next.

I am called as a Pastor/Teacher and have given my all through the years to be faithful to the preaching and teaching of God’s Word, the shepherding of God’s people and leading of God’s flock through His Word toward greater growth in Christlikeness and effectiveness in using their spiritual gifts for the building of God’s Kingdom.

I am committed to…

  • Glorifying God as a worshipper
  • Serving Christ as a believer
  • Exercising my gifts as a Pastor/Teacher
  • Helping others as a neighbor/counselor
  • Loving my wife as a husband
  • Shaping my children as a father

I also emphasize…

  • A Reformed Soteriology
  • Expository Preaching/Teaching
  • Biblical Counseling
  • Progressive Sanctification
  • The Church being God’s church

I hope that one day as people look back on my life that they can say…

“He was a faithful expositor of God’s Word who smelled like sheep.”

  1. Thought I’d visit my first blog, so you’ll be wearing a yellow bow tie next Sunday? Remind us where Yankeerev came from?

  2. In response to D Martin Lloyd-Jones…I just finished cleaning and organizing Pastor Randy’s library while he is in Costa Rica. He’s always talking about DMLJ also and he has a two volume biography on him by Inia H Murray that I was thinking about seeing if I could borrow for a read. I put all of his bio’s on one shelf and titled it “The Dead Guys.” That’s what he calls his bio’s.
When are we going to see some pictures and comments about the kids? I like you but…Elia and the kids are kinda cool themselves.
    See ya, Linda

  3. Great blog. I’ve visited before, but don’t think I’ve ever commented. I just wanted to say that I always appreciate your thoughtful, biblical meditations.

  4. Barry,

Thanks for your kind words. I am glad that any thoughts of mine can be an encouragement…

  5. Hi, Pastor Rod.

It was nice that mom and I could run into you at Panera.

Thanks for all of the messages at CV First. I really appreciate all of the spiritual growth that I have experienced through the messages at church.

    Sincerely,

    Clara

did you know that your initials spell R-A-L-PH? That’s pretty excellent! Maybe it will catch on as a nickname.
