How To Find the Right Counselor?

This past week I attended the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC) Conference held at NorthCreek Church in Walnut Creek, CA.  It has been over eight years since I attended training at Faith Baptist Church in Lafayette, IN, and so I was eager to be present.  As one who embraces Nouthetic Counseling I especially appreciate men like Randy Patten, Paul Tripp, Tedd Trip, Lou Priolo, Stuart Scott, Steve Viars & David Powleson, and I am eager to sit under their teaching to grow and gain wisdom in both the formal side of counseling as well as the informal.

Sadly, a Biblical approach to counseling is greatly lacking in the church today.  Usually what a church offers, if anything, is a quasi form of secular psychology laced with scripture by well meaning people who have not embraced the Scriptures or the Savior as sufficient.  So, how does one find a counselor who is going to give them Biblical Wisdom for their struggle, problem or ‘disorder’?
